Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Saidapur Farm Dharwad is actively involved in transferring the technical know how to the farming community of Dharwad district through different extension activities. Based on the survey, PRA & Group discussions with farmers/ farmwomen & suggestions of SAC meeting it was felt necessary to establish integrated faming system modules on the farmers field. Farmers having less than 5 acres of land were selected in order to improve their socio economic condition & employment generation & to educate the surrounding village farmers. In light of this a core group of scientists initiated Integrated Farming System (IFS) approach recently during 2006-07 in 3 different villages of Dharwad district.
Goals of Integrated Farming System
The four primary goals of IFS are -
Maximization of yield of all component enterprises to provide steady and stable income at higher level.
Rejuvenation / amelioration of system's productivity and achieve agro-ecological equilibrium.
Control the build-up of insect-pest, diseases and weed population through natural cropping system management and keep them at low level of intensity.
Reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and other harmful agro-chemicals and pesticides to provide pollution free, healthy produce and environment to the society, at large.
